Keeping Safe in Our School
This week, I delivered our first whole-school assembly of the year, focusing on Keeping Safe in Our School. We reviewed how the different adult lanyards work so that children know who our safe adults are and can easily identify the adults they can approach for help.
We also talked about keeping ourselves and each other safe on the playground, including how we use the playground equipment safely and responsibly.
As part of the assembly, we looked at two important posters which are now displayed in every classroom and around the school: our Anti-Bullying poster and our Consent poster. We talked through the key messages on each poster and reminded children about what they should do if they are ever worried about themselves or somebody else.
You can find copies of both posters in the Safeguarding and Wellbeing section of this newsletter.
Step Back in Time
This week also saw the launch of our first Piece of Learning of the year – Step Back in Time.
Each year group has its own Leading Question, which will take the children on a journey of exploration and discovery into the past. Through their history learning, children will investigate different periods, people and events, developing their knowledge and understanding as they work towards answering their Leading Question.
Their learning will also make connections with geography, helping children understand the places and environments connected to the history they are studying. In art, they will develop their observational drawing skills by studying and drawing artefacts, historical buildings and architecture linked to their learning.
There is lots more information about what each year group will be learning on the Curriculum pages of our school website. We hope you enjoy talking to your children about their Leading Questions and discovering where their journey into the past takes them!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Gayle Fletcher
