Absence requests

Request for Leave of Absence

Regular school attendance is important to your child's academic, wellbeing and wider development. Good attendance will give your child the best possible start and hope for success in the future.

Parents are legally responsible for ensuring children of compulsory school age (5-16 years old) get a suitable, full-time education. This means ensuring your child attends school every day.

Request for Leave of Absence During Term Time (Holiday Leave)

The Department for Education allows a headteacher the discretion to consider authorising a leave of absence in term time only in exceptional circumstances. If the leave is not considered to be an exceptional circumstance, it will not be agreed. If you nevertheless take your child out of school for the leave of absence, this will be recorded as unauthorised.

If you need to request a leave of absence during term time, please complete the form below:

Any request should be submitted as soon as it is anticipated and, where possible, at least 4 weeks before the absence. The Headteacher may require evidence to support any request for leave of absence.

Absence Requests for Medical Appointments and Other Events

Wherever possible, routine appointments should be made after school hours or during the school holidays.

If you need to report a medical appointment or absence for another event, please use the correct form below:

Absence Request for Other Events (Not Medical Appointments)

Absence requests must be submitted at least five days before the appointment/event.

The school requires evidence of medical appointment(s). This can either be emailed to the school office (admin@nauntonpark.gloucs.sch.uk) or alternatively, an email/text reminder can be shown to office staff on an electronic device prior to or on the day of the appointment.

Leave will not be authorised retrospectively, unless in an emergency.
