British Values in the curriculum
At Naunton Park Primary School, we ensure children become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and tolerance, regardless of background. We promote the basic British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs. This ensures young people understand the importance of respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.
Through the curriculum, and work beyond it, children develop an understanding of the strengths, advantages and disadvantages of democracy, and how democracy and the law works in Britain, in contract to other forms of government in other countries.
Additionally, all pupils within the school have a voice that is listened to, and the school demonstrates how democracy works by actively promoting democratic processes, including School Council, Eco Warriors, House Captains and Sports Captains. The school provides pupils with the opportunity to learn how to argue and defend points of view within and beyond the curriculum. Extra-curricular activities in school promote fundamental British values.
British Values through our curriculum can be viewed below. This document is being updated throughout the year so is currently not a complete map of how British Values are taught and covered through our curriculum.
